There is the new paralel research branch of imperial skills that use affinity as a resource. It's now gated via tome tiers rather then prerequisite research like it was with class units or such, although I would guess that the overall pace of research will be similar to AoW3 unless you manchkin your way through the games research via society traits etc. It's kinda the same as AoW3, just a lot less picks available after research completion, but you are also not gated from high tier research by low tier research per se since each time it gives you new options. The research is also a new semi-gacha thingy where you have a semi-random 3 picks roll with a reroll for mana and ability to lock a pick for the next roll after completing research. It's by far less headache inducing to figure out planetfalls mods then AoW3 resistance synergies or weaknesses. Plus the defensive stat rework where each point is around ~10% damage resistance in respective channels instead of obnoxious spread of 50-100% resistances in AoW3 which IMO is absolutely great. On top of that hero items are more scarce and without crafting you will need to be a bit more mindful of either clearing the map and the skills that the hero will learn down the line. It's definitely different from the unit mods, but still introduces a similar progression to unit roster which is pretty influential.Īlso the unit types are a bit more pronounced via more restrictions on what any given class has - no melee for ranged units, more classes with 1-hit attacks rather then 3-hit etc. I'm not entirely sure how the new tome, race and enchantment framework will feel though. The main thing being the chopping up of overall content into building blocks for the player to arrange into an empire which is significantly different from both AoW3 and planetfall. Sectors, new empire resource like influence (imperium) for diplomacy and some other stuff, on guard abilities, casus bellies, defence stat rework.īut all in all it has quite some changes of its own. I would expect it to be closer to AoW3 with some imports from planetfall:
